Hearing Aid Compatibility Disclosures for Mingle Mobile Websites
Hearing aid users can experience interference when using a wireless handset that is held to the ear. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires wireless device manufacturers and service providers to offer a minimum number of wireless handsets that are compatible with hearing aids.
Hearing Aid Compatibility Ratings
Handsets are rated according to their compatibility with hearing aids based on the 2011 ANSI Standard, which uses a “T” rating or an “M” rating, or for newer devices based on the 2019 ANSI standard.
2011 ANSI Standard
“T” and “M” Ratings
A handset’s “T” rating denotes its compatibility with telecoil-equipped hearing aids, with a rating of T3 (“good”) or T4 (“excellent”) considered HAC.
A handset’s “M” rating denotes its compatibility with hearing aids operating in acoustic mode, with a rating of M3 (“good”) or M4 (“excellent”) considered HAC.
Individuals with hearing aids typically experience the least amount of interference when using handsets with ratings of at least T3 and/or M3.
2019 ANSI Standard
A handset that meets the 2019 ANSI standard is considered HAC, denoted by a “pass” rating.
Notes on Hearing Aid Compatibility Phones
Handsets are tested and rated for use with hearing aids for some of the wireless technologies they use. However, some newer wireless technologies used in handsets may not yet have been tested for use with hearing aids. It is important to try the features of your handset thoroughly and in different locations, using your hearing aid or cochlear implant, to determine if you hear any interfering noise. Consult your service provider or the manufacturer of your handset for information on hearing aid compatibility. If you have questions about return or exchange policies, consult your service provider or phone retailer.
Handsets capable of use for Wi-Fi or Voice over LTE (VoLTE) calling may not have been tested for compatibility with hearing aids with respect to these uses.
